Enticott Music Management would like to congratulate Johan Dalene, Mitsuko Uchida, and Leif Ove Andsnes for winning awards at last night’s 2022 Gramophone Classical Music Awards ceremony.
Johan Dalene won “Young Artist of the Year” in the Special Awards category. Andrew Mellor from Gramophone wrote, “a wondrous tone, an elegant straightforwardness and a freshness of utterance that alerts you to characteristics of a phrase without reinventing it…He may remain a student, but he is more than a hot prospect – he is an artist already worth savouring. I suspect he will also prove the greatest string player to have emerged from Sweden for generations.”
Mitsuko Uchida’s album Beethoven: Diabelli Variations won in the Piano category. David Fanning from Gramophone wrote, “If her performance comes across as a breathtakingly extravagant display of intellect and imagination, that’s because this is what Beethoven’s music is…The clarity and warmth of the recording (from Snape Maltings) is as remarkable as the playing…the encounter with Uchida’s Diabellis is just too dazzling.”
Leif Ove Andsnes’ album Mozart Momentum, a collaboration project with Mahler Chamber Orchestra, won “Special Achievement” in the Special Awards category. Harriet Smith from Gramophone wrote, “This had Gramophone Award written all over it from the off…Common to both volumes is a sense of exploration, a belief that music is a living, breathing art-form…Intensity is another watchword, with music-making that is stripped bare of any excess and which gets straight to the heart of the matter…Mere words are not going to cut it: go and experience this music-making for yourself – it will make the world feel like a better place.”
A special honorary mention goes to Alan Gilbert for conducting the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and Frank-Peter Zimmerman in their album Beethoven, Berg & Bartók: Violin Concertos, which won the Concerto Category.
