The Vienna Philharmonic is pleased to announce that it has awarded honorary membership to Franz Welser-Möst.

Daniel Froschauer, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic, said, “The artistic collaboration with Franz Welser-Möst began in 1998. Since then, he has led the orchestra in subscription concerts in the Musikverein and on tours to Japan, China, Europe and the USA, and also conducted three New Year’s Concerts. The historic memorial concerts in Sarajevo in 2014 and Versailles in 2018 were performed under his baton, and he has regularly conducted the orchestra in opera and concert performances at the Salzburg Festival. Honorary membership is not only awarded to musical artists, but also to individuals who share personal bonds of friendship with the orchestra. For many years now, Franz Welser-Möst has been one of us.”

Franz Welser-Möst has been the recipient of a number of major honours and awards.  He is Honorary Member of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, winner of the Vienna Philharmonic’s Honorary Ring, and has been awarded the Kilenyi Medal of the Bruckner Society of America, as well as the Kennedy Center Gold Medal in the Arts. In 2020, Franz Welser-Möst was awarded the Salzburg Festival Pin with Ruby in and in 2021, he was awarded the Austrian Music Theatre Prize for Elektra at the Salzburg Festival in the “Best Musical Direction” category.
