World renowned pianist, Leif Ove Andsnes, announces the launch of his newest venture: the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival. From 11 – 14 August, 2016, the storybook setting of Norway’s Baroniet Rosendal will play host to a series of concerts, lectures and events celebrating the year 1828.

Welcome to the first Rosendal Chamber Music Festival: August 11-14, 2016! Nature, history, and culture converge in a unique way at Rosendal, and I can hardly think of a finer place for an intimate chamber music festival. I have played concerts at the Rosendal Manor House and Gardens for over twenty years and this place means something very special to me. Baroniet Rosendal cannot be described, it must be experienced.

It is with pride that I present the festival program. I have gathered artists I greatly esteem and we will perform music that we look forward to sharing with you.

As a theme for the festival, I have chosen the year 1828. This was quite a time in music history! Beethoven died the year before, after having written his last and perhaps most groundbreaking work. Berlioz revolutionized orchestral music in 1830 with his Symphonie Fantastique and Chopin did the same for piano music with his Etudes Op. 10 (1829-32). 1828 though is a particularly shining year for many music lovers. Schubert wrote miraculous music in the last year of his life and it has been a dream of mine to bring together a festival program with Schubert’s infinite universe at its center.

In addition to these concerts, the festival will offer exhibitions, lectures, and forums for discussion. We’ll have more details coming soon, so please stay tuned.
